For the week before march break, our student's council holds a "winter carnival" week with different days hold different events and costume days. On Tuesday it was "Tacky Tuesday", which is pretty self explanatory; dress up in the tackiest outfit you can find.
My sister and I dressed up-looked quite tacky I must say- and headed to school. Only to find that just a hand full of students actually dressed up. Feeling quite awkward due to the stares and giggles I'd received, I decided to change. Which later made me really mad! I shouldn't have changed just because other people found my outfit "odd".
This is one thing that bugs me about high school; the need to impress or fit in with other people.
How is anyone ever supposed to find who they are, when we all try to hard to be like everyone else?
I've decided to post a blog and ask other people to comment on one thing that they dislike in regards to high school...
p.s only 111 more days until summer vacation!!
all the snippy little drama and talking behind other girls backs (the grade 9's are especially guilty of this)
ReplyDeletei agree! its sad because i love dressing up for spirit days but i feel like an idiot cause no one else does!
ReplyDeleteYou get weird looks when you act the way you really are :(
ReplyDeleteespecially if you're truly nuts :P
Nathaniel Hawthorne wrote "No man for any considerable period can wear one face to himself and another to the multitude, without finally getting bewildered as to which may be the true."
ReplyDeleteI feel like this relates to your post in that without showing the world who you truly are, the real you gets left behind and you slowly become what everyone else wants you to be.
Individuality is what makes you YOU, makes you special, nobody should be able to take that away from you.
